My main medium is crimson velvet, highly evocative of the space of theater, church, pageantry, and even more of murky period interiors. The velvet that recalls curtains, carpets, interior decoration, priestly garb, theater, movie, or opera screens (sites of performance toward the public), gives an impression of separation, isolation. My enterprise is one of disclosure. By using surgical instruments I shave away the fabric's pile to expose the "skin". It is through removal that the forms appear.
