My current work consists of large (up to 30 x 40 inches) color video stills. Through juxtaposition of graphic, violent images, such as a bit pulling sharply on a grimacing horse's mouth, I manipulate the images into sequences that evoke emotional responses from the viewer. As symbols of childhood states, the horses in my images are pulled, kicked, whipped and otherwise dominated. Much of the video footage is from tapes dating back to when I was younger, showing and competing with horses.

Inner tension, self destruction, and desolation are issues I have dealt with in previous bodies of work. I have concentrated on self portraits to take control of my own image and presence, to literally manipulate myself in ways I would allow no one else to. Now I employ the editing process to manipulate the entire footage of a video into a few isolated images. Through this work I am investigating conflicting memories and love-abuse relationships. The use of video and surveillance techniques is subversive to traditional winner's circle horse photography, yet explores, in a Muybridge-like fashion, the subtleties in gesture and positioning that the eye could not view unaided.
