I'm interested in what lies beneath and who or what has access to that unexposed information. Similar to a play, where the audience has a determined amount of information, and the writer of the play decides what the characters know, how much the audience is allowed to know and how the dynamics of the dueling information will interact.

I work with drawings because of how quickly I see progression in various directions. Each drawing begets another. I can take minor elements which I feel were successful in previous drawings and apply them directly or indirectly to a new drawing immediately, thus accelerating my hunger for incessant progress. Because I do not totally understand all that I draw, I am often compelled to make another drawing in response, which inevitably begs new questions - and the cycle continues.

I have found books to be an excellent vehicle for drawing. One can set up a narrative or simply amass a collection of drawings all in one place, so they may be experienced at one time. When a viewer looks through a book - the pace is determined by the viewer. I am currently looking in another direction to continue my exploration of control through drawing by way of animation with a 16mm movie camera. As the creator of the animation, I have complete control over the paced chronological elements - something artist books introduced me to but were also limited in the control that I, as the maker, had over the viewer with regards to a disciplined rhythm.
