My recent work is an investigation into how the built environment impacts human movement. This inquiry has two distinct parts:

1. Prototype Development

In order to control the variables of the investigation, I have designed several pre-packaged building units. These units are flexible and based on materials used in conventional construction. Building units include gypsum wall panels, die cut cardboard and rubber tiles. Units allow for perforations into adjacent spaces, and protrusions from the traditionally flat wall surface. The cardboard packaging of each wall panel transforms into a shelving unit. The depth and location of shelves represents the density and direction of the movement through the site. The building components are designed for universal application.

2. Test - Site

Pedestrian traffic and human movement in a given site are recorded through video. Multiple prototypes are installed in a test site. The initial data collected determines the subsequent alterations in the site. Shelving is arranged to create a three dimensional diagram of the recorded traffic. After the site has been altered, the pedestrians enter the site again. Changes in pedestrian flow are monitored and the site is reconfigured to represent the changes in activity.
